Two women feared dead in Aba auto crash

Two female passengers of a commercial bus in Aba, Abia State, are battling for survival at an undisclosed hospital in the city after their bus collided with a truck.

According to Vanguard, Eyewitnesses said that the accident, which involved the commercial bus with number plates Abia ABA 288 YG, and a Mack Truck with number plates Rivers XY 713 PHC, occurred Tuesday morning.

Some of the passengers sustained minor cuts, while the two women were unconscious.

Narrating the incident , one of the passengers in the bus, Patience Abanjoubo, said they were heading to Aba from Uruakpan, Akwa Ibom State, to sell palm oil, fruits and vegetables at the Good Morning Market in the city when their bus crashed into the truck.

She further stated that the driver of the commercial bus had been arrested by the police.

The Aba Unit Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, ACP Okora Awassam, attributed the accident to speeding and carelessness of the driver even as she blamed the inability of the truck driver to put caution sign at the back of the truck to warn other drivers of the broken down truck.

Awassam said that her agency was making efforts to tow away the two trucks which broke down on the same portion of the road to avert another accident. She warned motorists against speeding and overtaking at sharp bends.
