'I'm not in the frame of mind to lose weight': Obese husband who is 'too fat to work' pleads for taxpayers to stump up for a £10,000 gastric band operation after piling nine stone back on

  • Stephen Beer and wife Michelle Beer known as Britain's fattest scroungers
  • Stephen, 46, has gained back nine stone and has asked NHS for help
  • He said marriage woes and debt problems drove him to comfort eating
  • Wife Michelle, 44, said 'she'll love him whatever weight he is'

  • Once dubbed one on 'Britain's fattest benefits scroungers', morbidly obese Stephen Beer has regained the weight he and wife Michelle worked so publicly to lose.
Mr Beer, 46, lost nine stone last year but has since piled the same amount back on - meaning his 5ft 5in frame now weighs 32 stone.
The unemployed father-of-six has now turned to the NHS for help bringing his weight down through the help of a £10,000 gastric band.

Stephen Beer, 46, and his wife Michelle worked hard to lose weight together. However Mr Beer has revealed that he has since piled nine stone back on and needs the NHS to pay for him to have a gastric band

Talking to the Sunday People, Mr Beer said that 'the taxpayer will have to help me out' as he 'can't cope any more'. He added that he was terrified he was going to die if he did not get help.
'I am not in the frame of mind to lose weight any other way,' he said.
The Plymouth couple briefly separated after they failed lie detector tests on the Jeremy Kyle talk show, which claimed they had both been unfaithful - allegations they both denied.
While they have since reconciled, Mr Beer has been struggling to cope with the emotional strain and turned to food, which has caused his weight to rocket back up.
Mrs Beer, 44, who exercises to maintain her post-diet weight of 19 stone, told the Sunday People that she was upset her husband had put the weight back on but that 'I just get what he wants for peace and quiet'.

Mr Beer did admit that he was nervous about going to his GP to ask about the operation.
His weight means that Mr Beer suffers from health problems that affect his mobility.
'It's all my fault. I'm not blaming anyone else,' he said, adding that he'd been too ashamed to do to the doctors and that he was concerned everyone would think he was a 'complete waste of time.'
He stressed he was speaking out about it because weight gain can happen to anybody, which is why he should get help.

Mr Beer suffers from a range of health problems due to his weight and has a carer to help him get dressed

The couple made headlines last year after appearing on Channel 5 show Too Fat To Work.
On the programme they revealed they received around £2,000 a month from the state - a combination of Disability Living Allowance, Jobseeker's Allowance and other entitlements - and said they spent much of it on fry-ups, fish suppers and kebab dinners.
They also spoke of paying for their £3,000-wedding with state benefits they had saved up, which caused national outcry.
Following national public backlash, the pair, who weighed 55st between them, decided to embark on a weight-loss programme and Mr Beer vowed to return to work after discovering his wife had become pregnant.
However, after losing 13 stone between through an intensive weight-loss boot camp, they were spotted celebrating their anniversary on December 1, 2015, enjoying a slap-up KFC.
Mrs Beer could be seen holding a 'happy anniversary' balloon as her husband carried a KFC bucket in one hand and deep-fried chicken in the other as they walked along a street.

The Beers, who used their benefits money to pay for their £3,000 wedding recently faced marriage woes which forced Mr Beer back to comfort eating
