THE Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ogiame Ikenwoli, has expressed shock over the passage of HRM Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Erediauwa, the Oba of Benin, describing him as “a most revered monarch.”
The Olu’s condolence was conveyed to the Bini Kingdom yesterday, by an 11-man delegation of the Warri Traditional Council, led by its Chairman, Chief Yaya Pessu, who visited Crown Prince Eheneden Erediauwa, at the Uselu transitory grounds in Benin City, Edo State.
The Olu’s message, presented by Chief Pessu, read: “We recall that Omo N’Oba N’Edo Erediauwa ascended the exalted throne 37 years ago.
We condole with the Edaiken N’Uselu, the Royal family and the Bini Kingdom on the passage of the Oba. “We understand the gravity of this great loss and how the entire Bini Kingdom is thrown into deep mourning.
We and all our people in Warri Kingdom share in your moment of grief. It is our prayer that God comforts your hearts. Take solace in the fact that we had a great king much loved and adored by many within the kingdom and the nation at large.”
Chief Yaya added that the Olu had pledged for his kingdom to be robustly involved in the transition rites of the Oba as events unfold.
In gratitude to the visitors, the Edaiken N’Uselu said: “We are touched by the deep show of condolence. Our father has not departed. He is still with us.
I draw a lot of inspiration from him and so it is too for all the kingdoms as far away as Nembe in Bayelsa State who draw roots of their kingdoms from Benin.”
