Aisha Buhari donates 5 trucks of relief items, N55m to Boko Haram victims

WIFE of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, has donated five trucks of assorted relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, and victims of insurgency in Borno State.

She also released N55 million and shared it among the parents of 219 Chibok missing schoolgirls and those who lost their children during the attack on Federal Government College, Buni Yadi, where scores of students were massacred.


Distributing the relief items through a committee set up by her yesterday, the Secretary of the committee, Zuwaira Gambo said, IDPs,
pregnant women, lactating mothers, children and those who sustained injuries due to suicide bombings and hospitalized at various hospitals in Borno state would benefit from the exercise.

Gambo explained that the committee which included the wife of Borno State Governor, Hajiya Nana Kashim Shettima as Chairperson and Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Fanta Baba Shehu as member swung into action by visiting all the designated resettlement camps in Maiduguri metropolis and Gubio town which formed part of the host communities.

According to her, before visiting Gubio and other host communities, the team visited Biu Local Government Area of the state where thousands of IDPs and victims of insurgency from Debiro, Sabon Gari and Damboa Local Government Area also benefitted from the gesture.

“We are giving them cans of powdered milk, bags of rice, blankets, Mosquitoe nets, indomie, soaps and other kinds donated to Her Excellency by various well-wishers, friends, cooporate organizations in support of her Excellency’s kind gesture to victims of insurgency and other communal clashes in the country.

So far, we have visited about 14 camps with each accommodating IDPs from more than one council area.

We have been to Ali Monguno Teachers Village, NYSC camps, Yerwa, Arabic College, Government College, and many other Camps. “We have also been to Gubio which is one of the host communities and we have given them nutritional food supplement, particularly for pregnant and lactating mothers. We are set to visit Dikwa IDPs camp because from the statistics available, there are over 20,000 IDPs in that Dikwa camp”. Hon. Gambo stated.
